ADDITIVE ANGLES can’t you see?

Our totals might add up to ninety!

Sixty, seventy, one hundred twenty too!

Subtract to find the missing angle-

We know what to do!

Georgia O’Keeffe

While studying famous artists, we took the time to replicate some of Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting of flowers. Each student created their own work of art from a “bee’s eye view” while showcasing his or her knowledge of our science terminology about light. Can you find the media that we used to SHOW WHAT WE KNOW about the way light travels using the terms transparent, translucent, and opaque?

Our Dancing is….Electrifying!

The students had to showcase their knowledge of electrical circuits by performing a dance. The students had to work together as a group to show each part of either a simple, series, or parallel circuit. Each circuit had to use a switch and use movement to show what occurs when the switch is moved from the open position to the closed position and vice versa.

Muppets!

For the past week, the students have been reading a short novel about the Mississippi native and Kermit the frog creator, Jim Hensen. After learning about his personal life and his successful career, the students created a TV show similar to the same way that Jim would have developed a skit for his Muppets. They completed a character web and a storyboard to help develop their characters and plot. While learning about simple machines in science, the student learned that their Muppet was a lever. The students built their Muppet while learning about the load, fulcrum, and force that is used to make their Muppet work. Students performed their TV show for classmates while keeping in mind the importance of voice, timing, and puppetry.

4th Grade is snapping to it to show what they know!

This week the fourth grade will be taking the snapshot test in Language Arts on Tuesday and Math on Wednesday and Thursday.  This test will be the last practice test given before we begin our state testing in March.  The fourth grade has worked extremely hard all year in preparation for these test.  Please help encourage your child to do his or her best on these test.

Math and Arts Night!

Come join us this Thursday, January 29, 2015 for Math and Arts Night. We will have a performance in the auditorium along with a few reminders from Ms. Read then we will come to the classrooms so that parents can experience a true math arts integration lesson. This is always a fun time to get to see what your students get to experience on a weekly basis here at Nora Davis. Can’t wait to see everyone!

Fraction and Decimal ART!

The students were challenged to create a piece of artwork that followed a specific math criteria. They had to paint and use certain media in its two dimensional and three dimensional forms by following steps! The challenge was that each media had either a decimal or fraction amount that had to be used. They students had to change fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions in order to create their artwork and to be able to compare the amount of media.

Diggin’ Decimals

During an infusion lesson with Mrs. Lanier, the fourth grade was an event planner.  Our responsibility was the music for a birthday party.  We were required to choose ten minutes of music to be played at the party.  The students chose a variety of songs and recorded the length of each.  The students continued this until they had the required ten minutes of music.  This tied into our math lesson of adding and subtracting with decimals.  The students had to learn a total new concept of lining of the numbers. The students had to understand that the decimals had to line up and that’s a fact!!! By the end of the lesson the students were diggin’ decimals.

Oh, Writing Poetry!

“Love that Friend”

Love that friend

Like a robin in her nest

I said I love that friend

Like a robin in her nest

Love to call her in the morning

Love to call her

“Hey there, Zipporah!”
